SECHURBA

SECHURBA stands for Sustainable Energy Communities in Historic URBan Areas.

The project will take case-study buildings and communities across six partner countries. It will identify existing economic, social and legislative barriers to integrating renewable energy systems and develop a best practice guide to encourage key players to commit to energy reduction and renewable generation within these urban areas.

Audits will be carried out in each community, and 'Historic Community Climate Change Strategies' will be drawn up. These will make committments to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by at least 40% in 5 'beacon buildings' and 3 communities.

A transferable toolkit will be produced to enable planners and policy-makers to adopt financial and technical measures for saving energy and carbon.

MEA is the leading partner in this 30-month European project with other partners based in Greece, Italy, Bulgaria, Denmark, Hungary and ireland.

SECHURBA is expected to officially launch in September 2008. Look out for the website, which is expected early in 2009.
